Born in
East Tennessee, but raised a military brat, photographer James King
has called the southeast his home for the past 17 years. James honed
his craft during an 8 year stint as a civilian still photographer and
videographer at Ft Benning. During this time King began doing freelance
photography, which helped develop his interest in the feminine aspect.
He is currently working as a video producer/director, but continues
to do commercial and private work with his photography.
Often described as a “dark themed photographer with a quirky sense
of humor”, James King's work avers many things and tends to be
construed differently by everyone. Twisted fetish, trashy sensibilities
and overt sexuality are just some of the various themes that he explores
with his images. He likes to play with dichotomy. Sometimes a particular
photograph may contain several contradictory elements, intermingling
subjects such as beauty, sex, decay, and wit to tell a story, thus making
it hard to put his most of his work in a single category.
The females
in James' photos are always strong figures and darkly beautiful. Most
of the time they are placed in undesirable environments, almost never
sanitary, and oft times downright septic, but they are never trapped
by these surroundings. These women are powerful, yet they always stay
true to their feminine emotions.
James’
work has been featured in various art shows, festivals, and events.
