I believe in transformation, the process of one thing evolving from another
to create something new. Artists return to ideas and themes over time.
A professor of mine once said," when you look back at your work years
from now, you will realize that you have been taking the same picture
for your entire artistic career."
There has always been and element of memory in my work. The work presented
here combines memory and transformation. After a 5 year hiatus, I have
revisited the ideas that informed the work at the beginning of my artistic
journey, and transformed them.
The pieces in Shadowlands, like shadows, allude the objects that cast
them. Structures of ideas conceived by a mind since evolved, interpreted
by current perceptions, are reborn as new entities.
Keila
Sone
Born in Bonao, Dominican Republic, April 16th 1976. Inspired primarily
by her dreams.Keila began experimenting with the use of geometric shapes
in presenting portraiture. By the studying the work of graffiti artists
in New York City. Primarily focusing on creating a sense of space and
perspective, Keila began to incorporate both the knowledge she has learned
from her early studies and the newer experimental techniques of the graffiti
artists, by employing both acrylic and mix-media to create a more rich
and expressive piece. Keila began working with acrylics as well for their
flexibility and textures. Using fragments of dreams and music, Keila's
paintings are intended primarily to express mood and emotion through the
art of space creation and perspective. She work toward developing her
style of adstractscape of finding new and intriguing ways to use perspective
and texture to create an Architecture of Emotion.
Artist Statement
My work are a fusion of my American experiences and Dominican heritage. What
is consistent in my paintings is that in each one I try to capture motion
and explore different possibilities. My abstract paintings are a direct
reflection of my life. They depict the loves, lost loves, triumphs and
disappointments. They are the poignant moments of my life's journey..."
